About the Sonoma County Water Agency:

  • The mission of the Sonoma County Water Agency is to effectively manage the resources in our care for the benefit of people and the environment in our service area.

  • The Sonoma County Water Agency provides water supply, flood protection, recylced water and sanitation services to portions of Sonoma and Marin counties.

  • The Sonoma County Water Agency was created as a special district in 1949 by the California Legislature to act as the local sponsor for federal flood protection and water supply projects known collectively as the Russian River Project.

  • During a restructuring of the county government in 1995, the Agency assumed responsibility for managing the county sanitation zones and districts, which provide wastewater treatment, reclamation, and disposal for approximately 22,000 residences and businesses.

  • The Sonoma County Water Agency is a Special District operating under the direction of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.

  • The Sonoma County Water Agency employs more than two hundred professionals in a variety of fields including engineers, biologists, teachers, wastewater operators, technicians, and more.

Our Customers:

  • Serving over 600,000 residents in Sonoma and Marin counties, the Sonoma County Water Agency is the primary provider of drinking water. The Agency's direct customers are nine cities and special districts in Sonoma and northern Marin Counties to whom we sell water, each of which help make decisions about water supply issues that affect their customers by participating in the Water Advisory Committee.
